RainTrace is a weather app made by TruWiz, Inc. (“we”). It has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. This policy explains the little it needs to work: where you want the weather for.
What we collect
- Your location, only if you allow it, and only while you’re using the app. RainTrace uses it to show the forecast and radar for where you are. Home-screen widgets show the place from the last time the app was open; they don’t track your location in the background.
- Places you search for. The text you type in the place search is sent to our server to find matching places.
- We don’t collect your name, email, contacts, photos or any other personal information, and RainTrace has no sign-in.
How your location is used
- To get a forecast, the app sends your location (or the saved place you picked) to our weather server. The server rounds it to about 1 km before it asks our weather provider, Apple WeatherKit, for the forecast, and nearby people share the same cached forecast.
- We don’t store your location or build a history of where you’ve been. Our server provider (Cloudflare) keeps short-lived request logs, which can include the requested location, for a few days for troubleshooting; we don’t use them for anything else.
- Our server sees your IP address, as every website does, and uses it only to limit how many requests one device can make.
What stays on your phone
- Your saved places, your units (°F or °C), widget settings and the latest forecast are stored only on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.
Who else is involved
- Apple WeatherKit provides forecasts and Apple Maps finds places you search for. They receive requests from our server, not from your phone, and the location in them is rounded.
- Radar comes from NOAA’s national radar through the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, also fetched by our server.
- On Android, the radar map is drawn by Google Maps, which may collect information about your device under Google’s Privacy Policy. On iPhone, the map is Apple Maps.
- We don’t sell data, show ads, or use analytics or advertising tools.
Your choices
- You can use RainTrace without sharing your location: search for a place instead. You can turn location access off at any time in your phone’s settings.
- Because we don’t keep personal information about you, there is no account to delete. Questions: support@truwiz.com.
Children
RainTrace is a general weather app. It doesn’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we update the date above. If a change affects how your location is used, we will say so in the app first.
