SpendFox
See where your money goes. Link your bank and card accounts, review each day’s transactions in the evening, and keep budgets, bills and refunds in one place.
Android app, in testing. iPhone later.
What it does
- A daily reviewEach evening, go through the day’s transactions, fix a category, add a note, and mark them reviewed.
- Categories done for youTransactions arrive sorted into categories. Change any of them, or make your own with an icon and colour.
- Bills and subscriptionsSpendFox spots charges that repeat, so you can see what’s due and what you’re still paying for.
- Budgets and refundsSet a monthly budget per category, and keep track of refunds you’re still waiting for.
- InsightsIncome against spending, where the money went by category, your largest purchases, and the places you spend most often.
Linking a bank
SpendFox connects to banks and card issuers through Plaid. You choose your bank and sign in inside Plaid’s screen, so SpendFox never sees your bank username or password. What SpendFox receives is listed in the privacy policy: account names, balances, the last 4 digits of account numbers, and transactions.
Before you can link a bank, SpendFox asks you to turn on two-step verification with an authenticator app, and you enter a code each time you link one. The server checks this too, so the app can’t skip it.
The keys that let SpendFox read your bank data stay on our servers and are never sent to your phone. Every request is checked so that each person can read only their own data. You can disconnect a bank in the app at any time, and review or revoke Plaid’s access at my.plaid.com.
